Project Area: The head office of the project is located in Dhaka. The project is being implemented in 492 (four hundred and ninety) upazilas under 64 (sixty four) districts of eight divisions.
Special emphasis has been laid on the Government's Vision-2021, Seventh Five Year Plan (2016-2020) and SDG's targets for women's empowerment.
About half of the population of Bangladesh is women. The participation and empowerment of women in economic activities is one of the conditions for the overall progress of the country. The use of information technology can make a significant contribution to the empowerment of women.
Access to information and providing information technology services to helpless, poor, disadvantaged or underprivileged women in rural Bangladesh will undoubtedly accelerate women's empowerment.
To this end, the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs has adopted the project titled "Information Apa: Empowerment of Women through Information Communication Technology for Building Digital Bangladesh". The project was successfully implemented in 13 upazilas in the first phase by the National Women's Organization under the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs.
Following this, a five-year (until March 2022) "Information Apa: Women Empowerment Project through Information Communication Technology (Phase II)" was adopted with the aim of extending the availability of information technology to grassroots women in 490 upazilas.Objectives of the project 6
Key Objectives: Empowerment of rural disadvantaged women through access to information technology and information technology based services.
Specific purpose 6
(1) to establish information centers in 492 upazilas of Bangladesh;
(2) To motivate 01 (one) crore rural women about information technology and to help solve daily problems through information technology;
(3) providing e-commerce support through information centers;
(4) to form technical knowledge teams through e-learning;
(5) To develop web portal, database, information IP TV.
